Nofel glyfar sy'n adrodd stori bywydau tair genhedlaeth o'r teulu Monroe. Ar y tu allan maent yn ymddangos fel teulu arferol sy'n ffraeo, mynd ar wyliau yn y garafán, a chynnal partion. Ond mae cyfrinachau yn llechu y tu ôl i'r mwgwd, Cyhoeddwyd gyntaf yn 2005 gan Doubleday.

A clever and moving debut novel which examines the lives of three generations of the Monroe family. Ostensibly they are a normal family, who bicker, go on caravanning holidays, and throw parties to celebrate the wedding of Charles and Diana. But demons are lurking beneath the exterior. First edition published in 2005 by Doubleday.
I fell in love with a hippy. And ended up married to a man who plays golf. She shrugged her shoulders. "Life does not always work out the way you think it will, you know."

Cadwalladr, with her quirky sense of humour, guides us through the lives of this extended family and with admirable ease covers a multitude of social taboos. Centred on Rebecca, the child of the unpredictable Doreen Monroe, ne Arnold, we find ourselves immersed in the hidden agenda of life behind the saccharine smiles, as Rebecca tries to discover the genetic history of her family. 'You can't have brown eyes if all your grandparents have blue eyes.' So the drama erupts. The dialogue is as sexually explicit as it is innocent.

There is little doubt The Family Tree is an achievement in its insight into the late-20th century's attitudes and stigmas, as well as being a thought-provoking and moving tale. Once the first page is read, you will find great difficulty in putting it down. You will laugh: It's a boy. Seven pounds, three ounces. What do you think of that?" Tiffany and I nodded. We weren't sure what we thought of that. It was an awful lot of information to take in at one go. Kristin Shephard shot JR. And we had a boy in the family.'

It is a book that has to be read.

"This is a superb book by a young Cardiff writer which deserves to win the Book of the Year. It is currently been broadcast as a dramatised Radio 4 early evening slot but this version doesn't do justice at all to the subtlety and complexity of the narrative. Themes are adultery, nature-nurture and mental illness. The portrait of obsessive bipolar Doreen is superbly sensitive. Apparently the author has no direct personal experience either of dysfunctional families or growing up in the seventies, but she manages to capture both as if she was there in the thick of it. "
