Nofel gref wedi ei lleoli yn ne Sir Benfro am glymau teuluol cymhleth, perthynas brawd a chwaer, cyfeillgarwch ieuenctid a chariad cyntaf.

A powerful novel set in South Pembrokeshire about complex family ties, brother and sister relationships and adolescent love and friendship.
Helen's older brother, Tom, was killed seven years ago. In an attempt to get over the past, Helen's family has moved to Pembrokeshire where they have spent many happy holidays with their Gran. A local family, the Owens, are also dealing with their own tragedy, the disappearance of the father at sea. The lives of the two families become inextricably linked in an uneasy relationship which causes further tensions.

In Flame is an absorbing and gripping teenage novel, which I couldn't put down. The writing is sensitive, showing a sincere perception of Helen's struggle to come to terms with her brother's loss, combined with her attempts to deal with the events around her, as well as coping with her own developing maturity.

The flame of the title refers to the fire emitted by the chimneys of the distant Pembrokeshire oil refinery which comforts Helen, and fire recurs throughout the book, with its association with passion and a lack of control - mirroring events in Helen's life.

This brilliant novel is suitable for both teenage boys and girls, and is a must read!
