Ysgrifennwch Adolygiad Cwsmer
Llyfr a gyhoeddwyd i ddathlu pen-blwydd yr awdur yn 75 oed, yn cynnwys atgofion personol melys a chwerw am Trieste, dinas llawn awyrgylch ac ysbrydoliaeth, atgofion sy'n adlewyrchu cyfnodau ac agweddau amrywiol ym mywyd yr awdur. 18 ffotograff du-a-gwyn.

A book published to celebrate the author's 75th birthday, comprising sweet and bitter personal memories of Trieste, a city of inspiration and atmosphere, memories which reflect many facets and periods in the life of the author. 18 black-and-white photographs.
To my mind, Jan Morris is one of the greatest living prose stylists. Frequently described as a travel writer this, I feel, is too limiting a description and fails to encompass her comprehensive brilliance.

Her latest offering is a tribute to one of her favourite places. She first visited Trieste at the end of the Second World War as a soldier and in these pages lovingly traces much of its tangled history. She takes us from the opulence and wealth of the Hapsburgs, through the years of Fascist rule to the Cold War. She is wonderful when it comes to evoking atmosphere, whether she is describing a place of worship or the bustle of waterfront life. She has a finely tuned antenna and frequently invokes the works of fellow writers who have been drawn to Trieste, such as Itala Sveno, Thomas Mann and James Joyce.

As in her earlier works about places – Venice, Hong Kong, Sydney, Manhattan, Oxford and her Gwynedd home, Trefan Morys – this is a book to savour, preferably with a bottle of red wine and ideally on a warm day in the garden.
