Cyfrol o straeon byrion gyda llofruddiaeth yn Vancouver yn ganolbwynt i'r casgliad, gan awdur o Gaerdydd.

A collection of short stories subtly linked by a murderer's arrest in Vancouver, by a Cardiff author.
Dead Girls is a collection of eight short stories by Nancy Lee. Loosely linked to a serial killer’s arrest in Canada, the stories inhabit a world of (sub)urban life experienced through failing or dysfunctional relationships, emotional blackmail, and the desires, regrets and lost opportunities of people all sharing a modern urban landscape.

Mostly written from a female perspective, Nancy Lee’s stories are insightful and moving. You will remember them long after the first read. The title story deals with a couple coming to terms with losing their daughter to drug addiction, while ‘Sisters’ moves from two sisters’ juvenile competition and jealousy to the miserable existence one of them finds herself living as a young adult. In ‘East’ two women’s quiet night out escalates into a night of drug taking, drunk driving and finally arrest for vandalism and assaulting a police officer. The serial killer’s presence lingers in the background of each story, a reminder of the omnipresent possibility of violence and death in the everyday lives of the characters.

These are short stories at their best – they grip your attention from the start and the end of a story always comes too early, leaving you wondering what happens next. The publishers’ blurb informs us that Nancy Lee is currently working on her first novel and I for one am looking forward to it being published in Britain.
