Cyfeirlyfr cryno ond cynhwysfawr yn cynnig cofnod o fywyd un o'r cymeriadau pwysicaf yn hanes Cymru, Owain Glyndŵr (Glyn dŵr) (1359-1415), a'i wrthryfel pymtheg mlynedd sydd wedi gadael ei ôl ar ysbryd cenedlaetholdeb Cymru. Cyhoeddwyd yn wreiddiol yn 1993.

A concise account of one of the most important personalities in the history of Wales, Owain Glyndŵr (Glyn dŵr)(1359-1415), and his Rebellion of fifteen years, which has left its mark on the spirit of nationality in Wales. First published in 1993.
This is a fascinating historical account of the life and times of perhaps Wales’s most famous personality. Glanmor Williams’s writing is both concise and detailed as he effortlessly fleshes out the truth of this legendary figure. Set against the background of the fifteen-year rebellion and Owain’s defiant stand against the controversial English monarch Henry IV, phenomenal tracts of research and precise detail of his family, allies and enemies are all included, making this book a veritable feast of knowledge.

Pleasingly, the author is also at pains to explain his personal opinion thoroughly and account for any historical anomalies that crop up. Unravelling the thinking behind the actions that took place, the motivations of the political leaders involved and popular social feeling for the important figures, one can almost imagine themselves at the heart of Owain’s men – fighting for freedom and fighting for Wales!

Indeed, the only real criticism I could level at the author is perhaps including too much information and detail. Occasionally I found myself floundering to remember certain names, places and relations and was left at times slightly confused. However, this shouldn’t detract from the overall book. The author’s historical excitement and the breathless, fast-paced style this book is written in is surely testament to the enthusiasm and passion of Owain himself.

A great read for budding historians or those interested in the national heritage of Wales.
