Llyfr yn dangos sut y bu crefydd a ffydd yn allweddol wrth greu hunaniaeth Gymreig, o'r 17feg ganrif hyd heddiw. Ystyrir Piwritaniaeth, gan edrych ar ymneilltuaeth y 18fed garnif, anghydffurfiaeth y 19eg ganrif, a dylanwad byd seciwlar yr 20fed ganrif. Trafodir y cwestiwn a fu crefydd yn rhan hanfodol o Gymreictod, ac a yw hynny'n wir heddiw?

This book demonstrates how religion and faith have informed Welsh national identity from the 17th century to the present, touching upon the Puritan period, the Older Dissent of the 18th century, 19th-century Nonconformity and the impact of secularism during the 20th century. It asks whether religion has been part of the essence of Welshness, and whether that is still the case.
