Cyfrol sy'n dilyn taith y rheilffordd o'r Amwythig i Aberystwyth, ac o'r Amwythig i Benbedw, yn ogystal â'r holl reilffyrdd ar hyd gogledd Cymru. Ceir yma doreth o ffotograffau lliw.

Covering an area largely north of a line from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and west from Shrewsbury to Birkenhead, and including the Cambrian lines in the east including Ellesmere and Whitchurch, the author provides a selection of largely unpublished photographs to illustrate the diversity of steam.
This book covers a period from 1957 up to the end of the steam era and into the early days of the diesel engine. The author Michael Clemens concentrates on the operational line running north from Shrewsbury through Welshpool via Talerddig Summit to Cardigan Bay and Aberystwyth. To the east he follows the Great Westernís route through Wrexham and Chester to Birkenhead.

Drawn from the author's own extensive archival material of notes and photographs, together with those of other collections which he holds in trust, the book forms a photographic record never published before. The text details his working knowledge of these railway lines and their historical role, while recording the changes that occurred as a result of the Beeching era. Concluding with the situation today, the book is written with an enviable ease of style that holds the readerís interest throughout.

Superb photographs, many of which are in colour, bring the text to life and allow the readers a glimpse of a vibrant rail network some fifty years ago, parts of which are almost unrecognisable today.

A handsome hardback of undoubted quality.

Anthony Roy
