He was a prolific author, having compiled The Changing Face of Widnes, The Changing Face of Merseyside, A Century of Birkenhead and the Wirral, A Century of Liverpool and A Century of Chester, amongst others. Cliff was born on the Wirral, and often enjoyed visits to the North Wales coast.
