A collection of 52 poems reflecting on various aspects of the identity of Wales and its people, with explanatory notes, the majority of the poems having appeared in previous publications of the poet's work.

Casgliad o 52 o gerddi amrywiol yn adlewyrchu amryfal agweddau ar hunaniaeth Cymru a'i phobl, gyda nodiadau eglurhaol; mae mwyafrif y cerddi wedi ymddangos mewn cyhoeddiadau blaenorol o waith y bardd.
In this deliciously concise volume, it is obvious from the first poem that the reader is in for a treat. ‘It is time to make shapes of my country,’ Conran begins. And so he does. Collecting extracts from previously published works, and adding a significant splash of new material, he creates an essential companion for any quest to the heart of literary Wales. He mixes his luscious poetic diction with a political sharpness that may raise an eyebrow or two; while his fascinating imagery and a spectral colour palette will refresh the weariest eyes.

But surely the Welsh lord
Is like a phoenix,
A chick
Impossible to eradicate

Splitting his poems into four mouth-watering sections, Conran explores his take on Welsh history and culture fairly chronologically and, in doing so, allows his readers to digest his poems in segments. So much to take in at once could be mind-boggling, but spread out like this, the author eases the task of the reader and only offers further enjoyment.

This is not just a literary tract to the remaking of Wales. This is a musing on the past, a comment on the present, and a cautious glimpse to the future of this beautiful country.
