This book is a sequel to Bump in the Night. Again we meet Lauren, who tells the story and who helps her Uncle Wil run the Wacky Fun House. Unfortunately, the Fun House has to close down because of debt. Uncle Wil refuses to charge admission to the rides. All the fairground objects must be sold except, of course, Gertie and Bertie, the special bumper cars which came to life after being painted with some old fairground paint.
Enter the villainous Dr Snare and his Travelling Funfair, with his dim assistant, Bootsie! What follows is a story which could well be enjoyed at Halloween. Kidnapped bumper cars, a skeleton and a ghost which come to life all are part of a cartoon-like story which is enlivened by Chris Glynns black-and-white illustrations.
As part of Ponts Readalone series, it is a swift-moving and action-packed story which should appeal to those children who need an incentive to begin reading on their own.
