Dragon and Mousie discover snow for the first time and visit the factory where it is made – not, as you might think, from freezing water particles, but from star sparkles and Arctic air! I enjoyed the pictures which showed the production line of knitting angels. Gini Wade, the illustrator, uses blues and whites for the factory scenes, which contrast deliciously with the vibrant oranges and reds of Dragon’s living room.
The fantasy element of the tale is very successful. Particularly charming is the notion that children are make-believe. The author creates comparisons both unusual and recognisable to allow the young reader to understand what the stuff ‘white as teeth’ is long before Dragon and Mousie do. Ideal as a tale for Christmas time.

Author Biography: Andrew Fusek Peters is a twice-nominated Carnegie nominated author, poet and storyteller who has written and edited over fifty books for children for such publishers as Lion, Walker, Orchard (Roar Bull Roar!) and Frances Lincoln. His Carnegie nominations were for the novel "Crash" for older readers, which was also shortlisted for the North East Book Award, and for "Poems with Attitude". He has twenty years' experience of school visits as a performance poet, often accompanied by a didgeridoo and juggling balls, and has been a presenter on children's television, including Blue Peter and the BBC1 poetry series, Wham Bam Strawberry Jam. His anthology Sheep Don't Go to School is on the national curriculum as part of QCA's Reading Differences Scheme.
Gini Wade has written four of her own children's picture books and illustrated many others. She lives in mid-Wales working in community arts and as a DJ. Further Information: Dragon and Mousie wake up to a white world where their forest was, just last night. They build a ladder to the sky, right up to the Snow Factory, where Cloud Angel gives them a very special present. Evocative and readable story for reading together or reading alone, illustrated throughout with 16 full colour illustrations by the experienced Gini Wade. Children and parently alike will enjoy this original snow factory concept with its conveyor belt-come cottage industry feel, and ponder over the story's message that sometimes a new experience lasts longer than the nicest gift.
