In rhyming verse Siân Lewis tells the story of Josh, whose Gran has a magical touch for healing animals and a pair of magic boots which take her to the sick animals wherever they are. It may be
A bat with a bruise or a snake with an ache,
A mouse that had hiccups while eating a cake,
An owl that feels foul or a Jumbo thats glum,
An eel with a really bad pain in its tum . . .
Josh has never been with Gran on one of her journeys until his eighth birthday, when they go to the jungle to help some snakes. Children will enjoy the clever verse and the lively story as well as the colourful, cartoon-like illustrations by Gillian Roberts. Like the verse, the illustrations are clever and lively. Each picture has many small details that the readers will enjoy finding, from mice reading around a lighted candle, to tiny animals peering out from behind jungle plants. For 4 to 7 year olds, this is a fun-filled story which may well introduce them to rhyme and rhythm.
