Casgliad o gerddi sy'n ymateb i fywyd a gwaith R. S. Thomas. Mae'r casgliad hwn yn rhychwantu hanner canrif, ac fe'i cyhoeddir ym mlwyddyn canmlwyddiant geni'r bardd. Cynhwysir ambell gerdd yn yr iaith Gymraeg, gan Myrddin ap Dafydd, Menna Elfyn, Twm Morys, Gareth Neigwl a Jason Walford Davies.

On the centenary of R. S. Thomas' birth, this anthology gathers poems written over the last five decades that respond to the poet's life and work. Features some Welsh-language poems, with English translations.
This is a book for readers who already have a strong familiarity with the work and personality of R. S. Thomas. Although each poem selected for the collection stands on its own, a reader using this anthology as a first introduction to Thomas would simply fail to notice or appreciate the myriad references to his works and to the man he was, with which the entire collection is peppered.

In his foreword Gareth Neigwl paints an informative, colourful and affectionate portrait of this highly individual person, which is a marvellous appetiser for what is to follow. The editor David Lloyd provides an introduction to the poems themselves and, at the end of the book, brief details of each of the contributors.

The various poems are, in effect, responses to the person Thomas was and the sentiments he expressed: his fierce nationalism, his anger and harboured resentments, his appearance, reclusive tendencies and personal idiosyncrasies, his love of landscape and its birdlife. By challenges, fond defences, affectionate remembrances and parodies, the reader is shown Thomas as others saw him, and is left with regret at having missed out on the privilege of seeing and hearing this highly eccentric, multi-faceted individual in the flesh.

The contributions come from poets who hail from both sides of the Atlantic with diverse cultural backgrounds and individual styles. Many of them write from personal experience of meeting Thomas, the fifty separate gems combining to make a very balanced whole.
